We call it the Water Cooler Moment
Some of you may remember one of the key moments that led to the creation of LocateTV: our lovely paragliding developer Colin seeing a motorbike clip on the net and trying to find exactly where and when he could see the TV programme it came from - a long and arduous process in that dark time Before Locate (BL).
UK Digital provider Freeview have today released the results of their poll to find the ‘most memorable TV moment’ of the past 50 years, to publicise the first phase of the UK digital switchover in Copeland, West Cumbria. The top 5 are all news items, with the fall of the Twin Towers and Diana’s funeral leading the poll. The top 3 entertainment moments come in at 6,7 and 8: the Two Ronnies ‘Four Candles’ sketch, Ricky Gervais’s dance in The Office and Monty Python’s Dead Parrot Sketch. Do you agree? What would be the equivalent for US viewers?
One of the things LocateTV is perfect for is what we like to term the Water Cooler Moment. Memorable TV moments are the stuff of social cohesion: in a break from work or school, or in a random bit of bonding with a stanger, someone mentions a great show they’ve seen, reminisces about a TV series they loved as a kid, or tries to remember what that film was where Tom Cruise did that stuff with the plane because they’d love to see it again.
And so LocateTV was born, to connect the water cooler conversationalists and many other TV and film lovers with the content they want to find. You need never again stand silent while the cool kids in the office discuss exactly why that old Frasier episode where he tries to become a corkmaster is the stuff of comedy legend. Go forth, Locate, and join in.
