The web is not for geeks, and TV is not for loners

As outdated as it may be, there is still a whiff of censure around those of us who love technology, new media, TV and film - let alone a combination of the above.

There is still some low-level media pressure that makes us feel that if we were truly beautiful and popular people we would spend our leisure time kayaking down wild rivers with a bunch of grizzled adventurers, dancing in exclusive bars with ten-foot-tall blonde girls, and making relaxed eight-course dinners in our country retreats with laughing children playing underfoot.

Of course, many of us do all these things. But many of us also like to watch TV, and interact on the net, and this does not make us loners or geeks. The truth is, TV is one of the most sociable things I can think of. We bond discussing programmes we mutually love or hate, debate about third world exploitation after seeing The Constant Gardener, and suggest programmes we know others on our forum or in our office would love. What would the classic date be without dinner and a movie? Just dinner, without the ice-breaking gambit of ripping a lame rom-com to pieces.

We see LocateTV as helping you to share with others the shows you love, or love to hate. Whether it’s directing your best mate to the site to find when that excellent House episode was repeated, or embedding The A-Team on your blog to introduce a whole new generation to the joys of Mr T, the web helps a passion for TV and film become an ever more sociable thing. Without sounding too corny, it genuinely combines the best aspects of the internet and TV - those that inspire and connect people, rather than isolating them.

So there, all you kayaking, clubbing chefs.
