New search page now live

Shout it from the rooftops: the latest site updates are now live. In addition to the amendments in the change log there is a new (hidden) search page for you to use which is trialling our improved search function.
I almost want to put this whole post in bold, with lots of exclamation marks, but I’ll spare you.
Previously if you were searching for a TV show, film or person to find when and where they were next showing on TV, online and DVD, then your search terms needed to be quite precise - a few days ago the recent Spider-Man movie wouldn’t appear on a search for Spiderman. Obviously, this could sometimes prevent people finding the content they were looking for, but this new search should solve some of these issues. Now if you miss out words, get them in the wrong order or misspell something then, in Google-tastic fashion, this new page will try and find the results that are the closest match.
For example:
- Search for Brsnan: results include Charles Bronson, Pierce Brosnan
- Search for Hairy Pooper: results include Harry Potter
- Search for Garp: get The World According To Garp followed by lots of actors called Gary
Ideally we would like our Beta users to have a go and see if it helps them find things more easily. Any comments on unexpected results, the ordering of the results themselves, or general performance would be most appreciated via the blog or the feedback page. Further refinement of this new woolly search will continue to take place and if the general feedback is good we make it the default mechanism soon. We think it is great improvement.
Ready, steady, go.
Lottie
