King of the Linux
I found the time to watch Die Hard 4.0 recently and have felt surprisingly motivated ever since. I really enjoyed the non-stop action antics of Bruce Willis and found the hacker theme throughout perfectly suited to my, ahem, geekier sensibilities. Perfect casting of Justin Long as the expert hacktivist — he definitely brought along the attitude we have seen in the Apple commercials, and delivers some great one-liners.
As a developer, my one disappointment was not to see him use Linux in the movie… his OS is not obvious. I would have liked to have seen at least one su or chmod thrown in there, maybe a little ps-ef for good measure… And no penguins in his apartment either.
I won’t spoil the ending, but Bruce saves the day (again) — we knew he would. To assuage my geek disappointment at the lack of Linux, I LocateTVed (valid new verb?!) Justin Long and discovered that he’s also in Dodgeball and, bizarrely, King of the Hill, Season 10. Ah, all is forgiven. Now I know when they’re next on and will support his royalties by watching them. That is a pretty cool CV.
