The whole development team are really excited this week as our live DVD price comparison lookup has just come together. It’s amazing to see how much the price of the same disk varies from different retailers. We had been waiting for commercial relationships to be set up and for finalised page designs. Now - across both the US and UK - we have relationships with the leading retailers and can dynamically query prices for all DVDs related to the TV show or movie you are interested in. How do we know which DVDs are relevant? Well, they are all matched and pre-approved by our hard working data operations team. For each DVD, the page simply retrieves the latest and greatest prices then inserts them, Web 2.0 style.
We’ve also made particular effort to present the information in a much simpler way than other sites I’ve seen. Because TV and film search is our business, there’s no faffing around selecting what type of product you want to compare: a simple search by title and the DVDs are right in front of you with just one click of the DVD tab, complete with easily recognisable box thumbnails. Prices are clearly presented, with the cheapest first of course. I’ve already discovered that my regular internet retailer is often undercut elsewhere - my loyalties will have to change!
All in all, the inclusion of “related DVDs” to the shows on LocateTV is a really worthy addition – and it makes all the difference exactly how they’re sourced and presented.
