Don’t get confused by strike schedule mayhem
It’s a beautiful thing to come back from the New World to discover that the hilarious LocateTV blog gang have posted the delightful video below. Admittedly, my enthusiasm for the project certainly shines through; but I’m a girl who loves to watch TV, not be on it. I just become transfixed by the coffee mug: why on earth don’t I just put the thing down? Anyway, thanks guys and hope everyone has enjoyed the little glimpse into my overenthused world.
Hopefully you’ve found the LocateTV searching and embedding videos posted last week more helpful. At least with those you only have to listen to me, rather than watch my gurning face.
So, I’ve been to the States, and of course the big industry news there has been about the fallout from the LA scriptwriters’ strikes. They’re demonstrating over demands for payment when shows are watched over the internet and on phones, a viewing trend we’ve commented on and responded to with our ‘available for download’ listings, which now cover all the major internet TV and film providers.
The Salt Lake Tribune has today been posting about the effects so far, with a whole host of shows having to shut down production, including NBC’s The Office, CBS’s The New Adventures of Old Christine, The Big Bang Theory, Rules of Engagement and Two and a Half Men. Fox’s Til Death and ABC’s Desperate Housewives have stopped shooting, and the premiere of the new season of 24, planned for the new year, has been postponed indefinitely.
It’s questionable how long the strikers will be able to hold out with the media conglomerates as powerful as they are at the moment, but they’ve certainly managed to rock the boat.
With schedules up in the air (Fox has just taken Prison Break off screen and is quickly rethinking an emergency winter schedule), LocateTV can be more useful than ever to keep track of when episodes of your favourite series are next coming up on TV. With so many top shows in peril, it might also be a good time to check out when repeats are showing or episodes are avaliable for internet download or on DVD.
Online TV community Digital Spy is a great source for all the latest news on the strike and there’s some great comment from bloggers such as Tim Goodman at The Bastard Machine. Have you used LocateTV to make sense of the strike-stirken schedules? Are you a supporter of the poorly paid people behind the shows or just annoyed that your favourite viewing is under threat?
It’s good to be back.
Lottie
